  • Grants Available for Youth Sportfishing, Boating, and Education Programs
    Organizations and local agencies involved in providing sportfishing, boating, and aquatic education programs and reengaging youth in outdoor activities may be eligible for up to $5,000 in grant money from the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission (PF&BC).   (12/11/08)

    [12/11/08] Weekly Column: Piccola's Goals as the New Chair of the Education Committee

    Since our founding, the Constitution of Pennsylvania has provided for the education of the citizens of this Commonwealth. In colonial days, both the Governor and the ‘Provincial Council’ were tasked to ‘erect and order all publick schools and incourage and reward the authors of usefull sciences and laudable inventions in the said province.’ In 1776, the Constitution held that “a school or schools shall be established each county by the Legislature, for the convenient instruction of youth…,” and in 1790, “the Legislature shall, as soon as conveniently may be, provide by law for the establishment of schools throughout the state, in such manner that the poor may be taught gratis.”
