Wildlife Rabies Vaccine Program Spread Over Western PA Fourteen Western Pennsylvania counties are participating in a PA Department of Agriculture wildlife rabies vaccination program. The goal is to control the spread of rabies among wildlife considered to be responsible for 90 percent of the reported rabies cases in the United States, with raccoons accounting for more than half of this total. Over the last 5 years, the program has seen a nearly 60 percent decline in the spread of rabies.
